Linux font rendering (like it's 1999)

I just got a new Intel NUC at work, and installed Fedora 31 on it.
Same monitors as before (HP 30", and HP 24") but some fonts look
TERRIBLE on the 24" monitor. If I do a screen shot with GIMP, they
look the same. I dunno if that's because a screen capture triggers a
different render.

But it's bad enough that it's visible on a cell phonetograph of my monitors:

The 24" monitor with ugly fonts is on the right.

Anybody have any idea what would cause that?

Thanks,
Barry
